One of China’s most important deep-water ports, the Dandong Port is located on the Liaoning coast in northeast China. The China Rilin Construction Group and its partner corporation West Legend, with other regional groups, have helped to develop and operate the port. The Rilin Group has invested in the port’s technological and infrastructural developments.
With its donation of CNY 50 million to the wetland restoration project, the Dandong Port and the China Rilin Construction Group are helping create a sustainable future for the Liaoning region. The contribution will fund efforts by the China Environmental Protection Foundation, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, and the Liaoning Provincial Environmental Protection Department to inspect and restore the Yalu River Estuary Wetland.
Although human activity has negatively impacted the Yalu River Estuary Wetland, it remains one of the best-preserved coastal wetlands in China. This restoration project will revitalize the 43.2-square kilometer Gushan Reed Field, recover tidal flat wetland from a 486-hectare shrimp pond, and construct facilities to control water level and support electric power.
The Yalu River Estuary Wetland restoration project has the potential to improve water and atmosphere quality as well as opportunities for tourism and scientific inquiry in Liaoning Province.
